Terahertz technology currently develops at a rapid pace. In the years to come we will see terahertz imaging systems for process control entering industrial environments. In addition, terahertz camera systems will be used to screen passengers at aiports and other public places that could be target of a terrorist attack.
In the light of the increasing demand for bandwidth it can also be expected that terahertz communication systems
will be developed in a few years time. American and Japanese companies already take first steps in this directions.
Short-range in-door communication systems which work at carrier frequencies of a few hundred gigahertz will represent
the wireless LAN systems of the future. Such systems could also solve the “last mile problem” or could be applied
for military communications in the battlefield.
